MICAH LLOYD WOOD

Fremont center for arts & Gathering
Santa Fe, NM
The finished project is a building that serves as a reflection of all the people groups that have occupied New Mexico. From the history of the Spanish takeover to the hidden history of the Native people of New Mexico to current residents to finally current tourists. This building takes all these perspectives into account along with capturing some of the artistic elements of this vibrant community. The proposal features a modern interpretation of a Kiva which was a place of gathering for Native communities, art galleries, gathering spaces, and finally a large auditorium to showcase the music and theater side of the community. The building gets its name from Fremont Ellis who was a painter known for their landscape paintings (one is shown in the reception area). This proposal ultimately serves as a place to gather, reflect, and cultivate art.
