Edward Canson Residence

Designed to reflect the way books often seem simple at first but as one continues the complexity grows and along with this the connection to nature is extremely prevalent. This residence was designed for Edward Canson and his dog Bert. Edward and Bert are moving from Mississippi are see this beautiful site as a place of refuge for Edward's writing. Some of the client’s needs were spaces to write/create, guest space, modular design, and connection to nature. The main house features 1,200 square feet with a 600-square-foot ADU. Overall, there are two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, which also feature three indoor fireplaces and one exterior fireplace. The first floor is designed as the main indoor entertainment space with a large patio connecting to the walking path, kitchen, living room, half bath, and mud room connected to the community garage. The second floor features the main bedroom and bath along with three patios and the ADU. The first patio is the riverfront patio with a wood fireplace, the second is the overlook patio which cantilevers into the tree line and the third connector patio features an outdoor kitchen and path to the ADU. Through the cantilever and pergola is the ADU designed after a coffee shop which serves as the living room for guests and the writing studio for Edward. The ADU also features one bedroom and a bathroom. This space creates a place of refuge for the client to be creative and grow.
